How Rentals Work

Renting from CM Rentals is simple. This page explains our rental process, rental rates, deposits, and cancellation policy so you know exactly what to expect before booking.

How It Works

1. Choose your tool and your dates

Browse the range and pick the dates you need. Availability is live. Every listing links to the manufacturer’s operating manual, so you can check the tool suits your job before you book.

2. Book and pay the first half

You pay fifty percent of the rental at checkout to hold the tool. The remaining fifty percent is charged when you collect it, or when we deliver. Both figures are shown before you pay. You will be asked to accept our rental agreement, terms and privacy policy at checkout, and all three are linked there for you to read, download or print.

3. Send us your ID

We will email you asking for a photo of your government issued photo identification. This is how we confirm the person collecting the tool is the person who booked it.

4. Sign the rental agreement

Once we have your ID, we send the rental agreement for electronic signature. It takes a couple of minutes. You will be asked to initial a few sections covering safety, your responsibility for the tool while it is with you, and the limits of our liability. Please read those parts.

Your booking is not confirmed until the agreement is signed. Once it is, we send a separate email confirming your tool is reserved.

5. Collect or take delivery

Collecting. Depending on the tool and the time of day, you will either pick it up from us in person or use our secure pickup cabinet. If you are using the cabinet we email you the compartment number, a one time access code and full instructions.

Delivery. If you have chosen delivery, we bring the tool to the address you gave at checkout. Please make sure there is safe, clear access and that someone is there to receive it, unless you have arranged an unattended drop with us in writing. Our driver cannot operate the tool for you or advise on where to put it.

At this point we charge the remaining fifty percent of the rental and place a hold on your card for the damage deposit. The damage deposit is separate from the rental and is based on what the tool would cost to replace.

6. Use it safely

Read the manual. Wear the right protective equipment. Do not remove guards. If anything goes wrong, or the tool does not seem right, stop and call us.

7. Bring it back

Return the tool by the time on your booking, clean and complete with all accessories, batteries, chargers and cases. If you are using the cabinet, follow the return instructions we send you, including the confirmation photo. We inspect every tool when it comes back and release your damage deposit within three business days.

Security Deposits Explained

There are two different deposits involved in the rental process

  • The booking deposit is equal to 50% of the rental cost and is charged when you place your booking. It forms part of the rental price and is not an additional fee. The remaining 50% is charged when you collect the equipment.

  • The damage deposit is separate from the rental cost and covers:

    • Damage
    • Missing parts
    • Cleaning
    • Late returns

The amount of the damage deposit is equal to 20% of the equipment's full replacement value and is displayed during checkout and on your booking confirmation.

The damage deposit is taken as a pre-authorization hold on your credit card, not a charge. We place the authorization hold at or before the time you collect the tool. No funds are collected unless amounts become owing under the rental agreement.

Release of Deposit

We inspect every tool when it comes back and release the authorization hold within three business days of inspection.

Once released, your financial institution may take additional time to remove the authorization from your account. Depending on your bank, this process can take up to ten business days and is outside of our control.

If Damage Exceeds the Deposit

The damage deposit represents only 20% of the equipment's full replacement value and does not limit your responsibility under the rental agreement.

If the cost of damage, loss, theft, missing parts, cleaning, late returns, or other charges exceeds the amount of the damage deposit, the remaining balance will be invoiced separately. Payment is due within 15 days.
